Well—even speaking as a pro-DC fan—you cannot (or you should not) discount a piece of work that somehow lasts through the ages.
People still "get" X-Men.  Apply it to their own situations as needed.  The running theme throughout X-Men is discrimination, which will ALWAYS be around.  An added twist to this particular product is that its main characters have the power to wipe out their very human opponents.  There is one faction hell bent on doing just that with the other side understanding that would be wrong to do.   So there is a very good stance on moral and ethical issues in those storylines.
Look at Shakespeare's work.  Also relevant throughout the ages.  Should we not read his works or attend performances because "people don't dress or talk like that anymore"?

I get that, I am not saying X-Men should end, just that it should become more modern, most people stop the non sense mutant hate and adapt to the modern way of thinking, maybe bring some mutant rebel groups who do in fact want to destroy all humans so that Mutant kind can evolve faster, or as an act of revenge for the past discrimination, so this would sorta flip the coin... but mutants being hated by most people just cause they have powers is sorta nonsense now, it's been over 50 years, professor X should have succeeded by now and most humans no longer fear and hate mutants. There's tons of other ways to approach discrimination, what about humans wanting jobs and not being able to get them cause mutants got the jobs instead cause their powers enable them to be better workers and need less tech and investment to do the same job.
Ice-man could open an ice-cream shop and so on...
