That's the biggest crock of crap I've read in awhile.  No one can take away "self determination" but if one's self determination is diminished it can be assisted to adjust but that'd only be helpful if the assisted's self determination would have been self evident to them in the first place. 
So what is "thwarting" the determining efforts of others....what if other's determination "thwarts" yours?  Self determination is a basic right regardless if others have determined otherwise.

Yes--we see in most societies that rights are unevenly understood and applied.  The main point is look beneath the obvious and not look to equality or some superficial standard.   For example, only a barbaric parent would treat a daughter the same as a son.
