It's comic book films, not Hegelian metaphysics. A viewer could catch up with Harry Potter in just 24 hours - and it wouldn't be much effort, because they are lightweight and fun. If. along the way, you decide that you're not enjoying it, then you don't need to bother with the prequels at all.
TBH most of this stuff is pretty obvious if you are in the least bit genre savvy. Maybe you'll miss some references, but it shouldn't get in the way of understanding what's going on.
As for all the cross references - just think of somebody trying to get into modern academic (i.e. classical) music when every phrase references something else, some other piece of music. Pop culture is still culture and to be cultured requires effort - don't knock it, revel in it.
