My understanding is this plane crippled the Battleship "Bismarck" so the destroyers could finish it off.

Take off speed minimal, lift powerful, landing slow so no hood needed. 80 to 110 mph meant low and slow observation with a torpedo for teeth, and distance because of economical flight. An easy target but they did get lucky.

The F4F was at a serious disadvantage in some performance areas, with the A6M, but did very well when the proper tactic were used. It held it's own.
